So, I just got back from a midnight screening of The Exorcist, which I had never seen.

That... might have been a mistake. Y'know, timing-wise. *twitches*

When I saw Transformers on Friday, I think one of the things that made me happiest was when the secret section government agent was played by Ron Butterfield from West Wing.

Soon, I will post pictures of drunken "Pin the Kiss on Michael Bay" from my roommate's birthday party. It's covered in lipstick and snarky Sharpie sketches and awesomeness.

Why am I up so late when I have to summarize the influence of melodrama on the action genre for study group tomorrow? Other than swing dancing and playing Apples to Apples for two hours....

I saw Dog Day Afternoon at the film series tonight (er, last night? five hours ago, whatever), and there were SO MANY Chevy Impalas. It was like Christmas!

I actually think about things more deeply than this, honestly. I could talk about the sound design or Pacino's acting or the overwhelming presence and role of women, but it's 3 AM, so Impala coveting is the way to go. *g*

Greetings, fellow internet dwellers! I should be sleeping, but I'm not! A shocking, rare LiveJournal event, I'm sure. Warning: this post contains completely random topic jumps. Do not read if you have poor balance.

I've been working at my summer job, which has prevented me from posting as I wanted to. I'm a canvasser for an environmental group, which is fun and sucky by turns, so I'm looking for a nice boring job at a bookstore with better hours.

I have now seen Jaws and rectified my failure as a film fan. It was lots of fun, in a gory, totally scientifically-inaccurate, awesome way. I called the way that they killed the shark very early on. The music really made some of the scenes, I have to say. Major props to John Williams. Also, Matt Hooper really, really reminds me of Hodgins on Bones.

The product of a vid contest over at the_dean_show, these vids are basically Dean Gen!Porn in pretty packaging, set to "Heterosexual Man." Mmmm, Dean. (The one by beluga is basically a slideshow with a Sam "voiceover" - I'd skip it. But the other two are very nice indeed.)

International Recommend-A-Movie Day. This means everyone should go to their LJ right now and tell their friends to watch a really good movie which most of them probably have not seen. And then tell more people to do it. Hopefully, we'll all have lots and lots of recommendations by the end of the day.

The Philadelphia Story: Somehow, the youth population has missed this movie. I had, but now OMG Iloveitsomuch! Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, snark, grace, wit, clever dialogue, love, love story with *plot*, old-fashioned clothing, the best drunk scene in the history of film *snickers*, and just...like... perfection.

Hah, I am such a nerd. I got home Wednesday night, slept for a decent amount of time, and then-- guess what? Went to see Spider-Man 2. (no spoilers ensue, don't worry)

*swoons* I'm in love. I'm in love!!! I loved the first one, but this one is better in every possible way. The plot! The character development! The villain! The fight scenes! The special effects! The dialogue! The kissing! The subtle meta of Aunt May! The acting (especially Harry, thank god)! The adorkableness of Peter, who just could not get a frigging break!

*twirls* My allowance is going to be totally shot, but I'm seeing this movie like 16 more times.

Flying west over the Atlantic takes a really fucking long time. 9 hours and 35 minutes. Then 2 hours in Memphis airport, which was still barely enough time to get through Customs (bloody paranoid inefficient *mumbles*). However, I got to watch 2 movies on the long flight that I normally wouldn't have. Guilty pleasures, both: Agent Cody Banks 2, and Miracle. I adore silly kid action movies (remember Mastermind, anyone?), and sappy team sports movies (The Big Green, The Sandlot, etc, etc).

Plus, Cody Banks was too adorable. I really want to write a story where he goes on a mission with Sydney Bristow and gets some lovely emotional scarring. Wouldn't that be fun?

Fandom deprivation gave me very strange dreams in Austria. The first week, no dreams. Then, BAM, two nights of fandom-intense wacky things. Alfred discussed the purpose of superheroes with Batman with glowing insight, but I remember only a few half-phrases. Then Batman discussed the same thing with Diana, in a scene laden with UST. Curse my brain.

The next was a strange mishmash of post-apocalyptic X-Men and Harry Potter, with guest appearances by Faith from Buffy and Taura from the Vorkosigan books. It was really fun and twisted, with tunnels, dormitories full of mutant trainees, conspiracies in France in the rain, and a few badass fight scenes.

Then I had a dream which gave me an idea for an original novel. This is the second novel idea I've gotten from a dream, so that's nifty.

I've been reading comic books all day and being moody. *whines* I need to curl up under the covers with lots of chocolate. I do have massive quantities that I brought back from abroad, so that's possible. I'm also trying to find post-Chosen Buffy fic to read, so any recs will win you lots of slobbery kisses.

I just went to see Return of the King for the second time.

After I got back, I sat down and re-read The Care and Feeding of Hobbits. I'm sure everyone who's ever looked for LotR fic has read this, but those who don't usually read in this fandom definitely should make an exception. Written from Boromir's POV during Fellowship, it describes several scenes from the long journey. It's sweet and funny and wonderful. It sneaks in through the backdoor, telling of the quiet moments and conversations Boromir has with the hobbits, and through the small things it makes you weep for the larger ones. I didn't cry for Boromir's death until I read this story, and then I just broke down. God, it gets me every time.

Yay! My sister Emma is home for Thanksgiving, and we all went to see the third Matrix movie, which I was ( less than pleased with )

In other news, I have sucked myself into a new medium to spend money on: comics. So, I'm reading The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (not done yet, so watch the spoilers if you've read), and feeling nostalgic about all the Ultimate Spider-Man comics I read at Marvel's DotComics site back when the movie came out. Then I make the mistake of remembering that we have a comic books store just a few blocks away (okay, like 15, but within walking distance), and take a little stroll over there last weekend. Then I get Emma to take me to Borders to catch up on the ones I've missed by buying the collections.

Whoops, there goes my allowance.

In more other news, any slash (or non-slash, really) readers should go here and aid fannish research. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to join Emma, who is watching Justin Theroux strike sparks off of Jennifer Garner.
